(English) Update of Curriculum Vitae
Since 1992 – During his stay in Scotland, Luigi Maria Villani attended courses in conservation, management and business. He taught antique restoration and gilding in evening classes and weekend courses, giving lectures to various cultural and professional associations. In 1993 he was awarded the National Certificate for Teaching and Assessing in the Work Place of the City & Guilds of London. He was later accredited to meet the standards of the British Antique Furniture Restorers’ Association, meeting their strict evaluation criteria. He has often been called as a specialist and consultant by Interior Designers and Architects to Plan and Manage restoration projects. During this time spent in the UK he attended National Fairs and events, Lecturing and staging Study Days which recieved particular attention from the local and national press in the UK.
In Italy from 1997, Luigi worked with Maestro Roberto Saccuman in the restoration of the 16th century wooden choir at San Damiano in Assisi and the portals of the Rocca di Spoleto. He was later called to restore several gilded frames and sculptures in the Church of Sant‘ Antonio dei Portoghesi in Rome. There he set up and managed a workshop for the restoration and gilding of all the antique fittings in their’s premises. Over 15 years he completed many projects within Saint Antony’s Baroque Church: many carved and veneered doors, inlaid gates to chapels, sculpted gilded frames, Cornucopias, candlesticks and columns, Consoles, the High Altar, the Gilded Organ, the ceilings of the gilded choir, as well as numerous peices of antique furniture, frames and features within the religious and cultural institute’s rooms and halls. He has more recently formed part of the team for the restoration and gilding of the Cornices, the Capitals, the Vaults and the Nave to finalise his engagement.
Luigi is now a freelance teacher and consultant available to give technical and intellectual support to implement restoration and gilding projects worldwide. He carries out restoration and gilding work both in Italy and in the UK and travels frequently to Asia and America. There are various applications of his unique skills: crafts men and artists that would like to develop their skills; antiques collectors that need to safeguard and preserve their treasures; students and anyone who wants to venture and gain practical experience; other institutions such as Museums, Art Galleries, Schools, Universities or management of Historic Buildings interested in combining the upgrading of antique collections and fittings, with tailored training schemes.
